Officials of the Department of health officials release the number stating a staggering rise in STD cases here at Kern county. How bad? Have a look at it, the officials report

  • 19 new cases of Chlamydia each day in Kern County
  • 30% increase in Gonorrhea cases
  • 60% increase in Primary and Secondary Syphilis

The number of consolidated cases amounts to a new STD case being reported, every Hour in Kern county. Nearly 11,000 new cases of sexually transmitted diseases reported in Kern County according to health officials.

The root causes of the rise in sexually transmitted disease according to Michelle Corson, spokesperson, Kern county public health are as follows

  1. Anonymous sex or one-night stand as they call or casual sex encounters are the main cause as a sexual history of the partner is unknown in these cases.
  2. The cause of Congenital syphilis (Syphilis in newborn) which happens to be the most disturbing in terms of number is when someone has syphilis and left untreated if the woman becomes pregnant and delivers her baby, the baby can suffer from syphilis and possess a potential threat to its life due to this STD.
  3. Multiple sexual partners: Having unsafe sex or having unprotected sex is the primary concern for the Department of health

Health official emphasis on getting tested for STD. sexually transmitted disease according to Michelle says “you need to know your status, you need to protect yourself, you need to be tested regularly for STDs.
