STD rates in Sacramento, California is at all time high. Know why?

The latest reports on STD by CDC states that the STD levels in California has reached what they call an “Epidemic level

Gonorrhea, Syphilis and Chlamydia are at the highest level in California with the highest levels in 30 years according to the health officials

STD in Sacramento county, California is at all time high

Numbers reported by CDC and California department of health reports the rate has increased significantly in present year. The increase in rate in Sacramento county is as follows.

Chlamydia : 11,650 this year, this is a staggering 20% increase from the previous year and 5th in Chlamydia infection.

Gonorrhea: 3800 people diagnosed this year, 15% increased from previous year and 7th in Gonorrhea  infection.

Syphilis: 418 people diagnosed this year, this is a staggering 45% increase from the previous year and 11th in Syphilis infection.


Experts believe, a number of factors contributing to the increase in these STDs includes

  • Reduced use of condoms and other protection during sex
  • Greater opportunity to meet new people (via Dating apps, Social media, forums etc)
  • Reduced number of government funded STD centres
  • People shying away from getting tested for STDs.

Experts has listed an advisory to be practiced by sexually active men and women in-order for them to prevent themselves from being infected. It states the following

  • Regular use of condom every time while having sex
  • Talk about STD and sexual health with your partner
  • Getting tested periodically for STD
