Kern County California, battling high STD rates

Kern County is falling behind when it comes to health and has one of the highest rates for sexually transmitted diseases in the state of California. How those numbers are being combated. The Report ranked in Kern County California as the 52nd out of 57 lease healthy counties in California. We looked into one of the glaring numbers highlighted on that report of sexually transmitted disease in Kern county having some of the highest STD rates in the state.
According to the report close to newly diagnosed sexually transmitted infections per 100,000 people and Kern county, public health officials say many of those kern use the average one STD per hour here. It impacts a lot of our young people according to public health officials.
  • Chlamydia rates are 42% higher than the rest of the state.
  • Gonorrhea 23% higher
  • Syphilis 90% higher
  • Congenital syphilis 344 % higher

Most of these diseases can be cured with treatment but officials realize talking about the sexually transmitted disease isn’t easy. It is not, this is a difficult topic people don’t want to talk about sexually transmitted diseases. It’s uncomfortable, it makes most people uncomfortable. An uncomfortable topic with an easy solution. We need to remove that stigma quit shaming people for human behavior. If we’re uncomfortable talking about sex how are we ever going to be able to empower our young people to make informed decisions when it’s their time two years ago.
